Hang, mommy, a cradley
On the hill in the wind;
When there’ll be no one to swing,
Mother Wind will swing me.
(Latvian folk song)
Traditionally, in many cultures of the world – in Latvia, as well as the European, African and Asian countries – parents had put their newborns in cradles, which allowed the baby to experience the weightlessness of the nine months, in which baby was growing up in mother’s body. While developing our idea of the cradle, we have been thinking about the meaning of these feelings.
Research shows that a child’s cradle-laying is not only a tradition, but an important element of the newborns life, which makes a baby healthy and harmonious. Baby’s sense of balance is formed from the third month of pregnancy and continues its development until birth.
It is known that the nine-month period of growth in the womb is the longest path across the biological development of human’s life, because from the two cells — a small human is being formed. This process of development takes place in a liquid medium – weightless space – until a baby is born into the world full of gravity. The water in which baby grows, reduces the weight fifty times, so the child in the womb feels as many times lighter. This explains their movements, muscle tension and restricted motion, which develops as baby grows. Cradling allows the baby to go back in nine months growth period, feel the familiar sensations he or she felt in the womb caused by mother’s breathing, heart rate and movement. The cradle helps with the transition from living in zero gravity to the circumstances of strong gravitation.
Furthermore – it turns out that all human life is a wave-like rhythm – from very high genetic rhythms to ultra-low-consciously free activities. Vertical swing cradle with a special technology introduces children to Earth’s gravity, thus activating the gravity of life rhythms. Formed internal gravitational rhythm involves not only complete vegetative internal rhythms, but also a state of mind, which is resistant to various adverse factors of the outside world.
Studies carried out at the end of the last century confirm that children who have been rocked in the cradle with vertical movements quickly learn new skills, they have advanced coordination, motor and speech abilities, have greater resistance to fear and stress. Hanging cradle has a positive impact on all further ontogenesis. Field studies found that children who have been laid in the cradle have less internal stress during everyday activities such as writing. They are less bent over notebooks, they have neat handwriting. Also, these children draw better and they have more advanced musical hearing, free, better language development. Children are resistant to the neurotic stresses.
Experiments carried out after the disappearance of the cradle as a result of technological revolution, proves that without rocking in early childhood child development and coordination of the body deteriorates, weakening free motor functions are observed, including speech and hand movements. Deterioration of the body – cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and other functions is possible.
Just as important as the soothing rocking motion is the lullaby singing. Parents should already sing lullabies during the pregnancy period. It strengthens the emotional bond between parents and the baby. Lullaby is a soul force that pulls children away from instinctive fear. Studies have shown that a mother’s lullaby – preferably in the same rhythm as the cradle moves – helps the child to develop as a harmonious spiritual personality, feel less fear and aggression. Like an air and breast milk, a baby craves for mother’s lullabies that combine love and feelings of the soul.
We are sure that the relationship between child and parents during the first months of newborn life will be enhanced and the baby will be a lot calmer if you sing him or her an already familiar lullaby.
